Positive: The vew from balcony of our apartment, which was on the 19th floor, was splendid. The apartment was spacious and had everything necessary for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. It is convenient for visiting places of interest and is close to the Corniche (seafront) which is a very pleasant place to walk. We had a problem with the water supply. Our host was very quick to offer us alternative accommodation which, in fact was not necessary as the issue was quickly resolved. There are very good seafood restuarants a five-minute walk away and number of mini-markets within easy reach. We would not hestitate staying there again or reccomending it to our friends. Our host also arranged an airport pickup from Cairo which was very convenient and resonably priced.
Negative: The antiquated lift is mentioned in other reviews. All I will say is it worked and it was an experience! The building and surrounding area reflect 'real' Alexandria as opposed to the sanitized version you might get in a five-star hotel. That said we never felt unsafe, including when out at night walking the backstreets. It all depends on what you like and feel comfortable with. For example, we spent a very enjoyable couple of hours sitting in a local cafe/bar watching football, where we were made to feel welcome.
Summary: We really enjoyed our three-night stay.
